Virtual therapy in California

Cheryl is licensed in California, and every session is held virtually. That means you can attend from anywhere in the state — no commute, no waiting room.

Yes. All sessions take place over a secure video platform. You'll just need a private, quiet spot and a reliable connection.

A lot like an in-person conversation, just through a screen. Many people find they're more relaxed in their own space, and that therapy translates well to video.

Yes. Sessions are available in English and Spanish, and you're welcome to move between both. If Spanglish is how you naturally communicate, that's welcome too.

Getting started

With a conversation. You share what's bringing you in, and we get a sense of whether we're a good fit. You don't need to have it all figured out before you reach out.

Through the Contact page — choose whatever way feels easiest. Cheryl responds personally to every inquiry.

Most clients meet weekly or every other week. We'll find a rhythm that makes sense for what you're working on and what your life can hold.

Sessions are 50 minutes.

It varies. Some people come with something specific and feel ready to pause after a few months; others stay longer because the work keeps unfolding. There's no required timeline.

Most people aren't sure when they first reach out — that's completely normal. You don't need to be in crisis or have the right words. Reaching out is the step.

Individual vs. couples therapy

Individual therapy is one-on-one work focused on your inner life, patterns, and relationship with yourself. Couples therapy is shared work with a partner, focused on what happens between you. If you're unsure, we can talk it through together.

Individual and couples therapy serve different purposes. Individual work focuses on your own patterns and inner life; couples work focuses on what happens between two people. The format that fits best depends on your situation, and we can talk through that during a consultation.

Fees & payment

Individual therapy is $150 for a 50-minute session, including the initial session. Couples therapy is $175 for a 50-minute session. The couples initial session, which includes the Gottman Relationship Checkup, is $225. A complimentary 15-minute consultation is available if you'd like to connect briefly before scheduling.

Cheryl Perrell Counseling & Wellness is a private-pay practice. Payment is due at the time of service. Superbills may be available for clients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance plan. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your individual plan.

If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, Cheryl can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your individual plan, so it's a good idea to check directly with your insurance provider about your benefits.

Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice, as well as no-shows, are charged the full scheduled session fee. Exceptions may be made at the clinician's discretion for emergencies or extenuating circumstances.
